Energy Usage
Residents at Dancing Rabbit use alternative energy sources and minimize their energy usage as much as possible. They use wind and solar power, biodiesel fuel for running the shared vehicles, and scrap wood for heating and cooking. Food is a big part of life here. The residents use as much local and organic food as possible. Some eat independently, while others join the food co-operative and share growing, gathering, and cooking duties. Currently, Dancing Rabbit has several private and co-op organic gardens. They also plan to start orchards for fruit in the future.
Decision Making
The community at Dancing Rabbit makes decisions through committees. These oversee things like pets, land management, visitors, membership, and the common house. Smaller decisions are made amongst the members of the individual committees, and major decisions are made by full consensus of the whole community. For personal conflicts, the village has a committee and a resolution process in place.
Economy
The economy at Dancing Rabbit is naturally quite small. They use an alternative currency, the hour, one of which equals seven dollars. There is a minimal amount of work to be done within the community. Residents are encouraged to start businesses that meet the needs of others here. For instance, there is an inn, a bookstore, a web design company, and an editing service already in place. Residents at Dancing Rabbit need to have some money to live here, but not much.
